PINE MOUNTAIN
COVERED BRIDGE
CENTURY BIKE OR HIKE
I
rode the Pine Mountain Covered Bridge Century on Saturday, May 22. I want to tell you that
you will not find a better century to ride. This is their first year which is sponsored by
Pine Mountain Volunteer Fire and Rescue. You will not find a friendlier bunch of people
than these people. The ride offers free camping the night before with restrooms. They
offered me free coffee in the morning. The ride is very hilly with some of the most
beautiful scenery you will ever find. The ride goes through three covered bridges. The
route is well marked. You can view the bridges on their great website: http://cbcentury.com The route goes over the many
ridges located in the area. The rest stops are manned by the local Boy Scouts. The stops
are well stocked with food and drinks. When you finish, you are issued a T-shirt, patch,
coffee mug, and a White Lightning lube sample in a cloth shopping bag with the Covered
Bridge logo. To top off the great ride, there is a great free dinner: Barbecue Chicken or
Spaghetti!
These
people want to make this ride even better next year! Mark your calendar next year for
Saturday, May 20, 2000 for a ride you will not forget.

I
rode the 100K on Saturday and I wanted you to know I thought you guys did a great job. I
appreciate all the hard work and the support from the rest stop people. It was a pretty
ride that kicked my butt.
The only complaint I have with the ride was some of the roads were the worst roads I have
had the opportunity to ride on a road bike. But that is not something you can correct.
Thank you for sponsoring a fun and great event.

Email
from a Local Rider
Hey
Folks,
Just wanted to let you know how pleased I was with the quality ride you guys put
together. I have been on a few well organized rides in the past, and I can tell you
that none was more fun or better organized than your event. Since I was babysitting
the twins (18 months old), we only got the chance to ride around on Pine Mountain, and I
didn't get to test the rest stops and the sag wagons, but I talked to and listened to many
of the riders as they fininshed the course. Except for the skinny tire sissies who
really ought to invest in a little more rubber for our Blount County roads I didn't hear
any complaints. Oh, and the sissies weren't really fussing too loud, they had had too much
fun. (Seems kinda silly calling them sissies since some of them rode 100
miles). The hospitality didn't surprise me, but I can tell you it impressed some of
the riders from elsewhere. From the distances travelled, I also applaud your
marketing. I was proud to be a "local" and I predict great things for next
year. Again, great job!
