Take GA75 south toward Helen from
Hiawassee. Turn right on GA180 (look for signs) Go approximately 5 miles. Entrance is on
right. Georgia's highest mountain rises 4,784 feet above sea level. On a clear day you may
see four states. The Visitor's Information Center, located at the summit of the Bald,
houses an exhibit hall with interesting displays and a slide show of the seasons in the
mountains. A very steep, paved one-half mile trail leads to the Visitor's Center. The
Center is open daily from Memorial Day through October and on weekends in early spring
(depending on the weather.)
Facilities include picnic tables, concession
building, craft shop, restrooms, four hiking trails (ranging from five to six miles in
length), the Brasstown Wilderness which offers a wide diversity of flora and fauna, and
plenty of parking. "The Bald" is operated by the National Forest Service. For
